Lectors
Lectors serve to present the Word of God to the community at every liturgy. It is the task of the lector to proclaim the scriptures so that they command the attention of all. Proclaiming the Word is different from any other reading. Eye contact and presence are essential —God speaks to people through the lector. The lector must strive to articulate the Word of God with clarity and distinction so that it is not just merely "read", but fully understood by the listening community. The lector will most often announce the petitions of the Prayers of the Faithful (in the absence of a deacon). All lectors are expected to prepare during the week by practicing aloud and reflecting on the scripture readings.
