Holy Family School Ceremonial Groundbreaking
On Friday morning, April 21, the long-awaited groundbreaking for Phase 1 of the new Holy Family School took place. Organized by the Groundbreaking Committee through much work and attention to detail the event marked a major milestone in the school's history.
The Groundbreaking itself was attended by almost 200 guests that included Mayor Tommy Battle, Most Rev. Robert Sullivan, of the Diocese of Birmingham, many clergy, religious, elected officials, and dignitaries who came to listen to various speakers and enjoy a Hatch Company boxed continental breakfast.
Our Master of Ceremonies, De Karlos Blackmon, introduced the Holy Family School Choir; followed by Dr. Isaac Hampton, USAMC Historian, COL. Scott Rawlinson, USAMC Director of Legislative and Public Affairs (a Holy Family School Alumnus), and featured guest speaker, David Valdes, Academy Award winning Executive Producer of Avatar, The Way of Water. The theme, Making History Count, One Beat at a Time resonated throughout the day! After breakfast, those in attendance adjourned outside to the site of the new school to break the ground with ceremonial shovels. School Children were part of the Shovel Team!
This is the first step to getting the project underway. More information will be published in the coming days and weeks on both the church and school websites.
